Al-Qaeda in Iraq Claims Responsibility for Bombings in Baghdad and Baquba

According to the message, three American cars were destroyed and “a number of cross-worshippers were killed.”

In two separate communiqués issued today, May 19, 2005, al-Qaeda in Iraq claims responsibility for a suicide bombing targeting Americans in Baghdad and a bombing upon Iraqi police in Baquba, north of Baghdad.

The first communiqué describes an attack today on the expressway leading to the Baghdad airport near al-Amiriya, where a suicide bomber “immersed himself within the crusaders’ convoy.” According to the message, three American cars were destroyed and “a number of cross-worshippers were killed.”

Also today, as detailed in the second communiqué, al-Qaeda in Iraq “planted an explosive package” on the road leading from Baquba to Diyali, and detonated it as a “police patrol that allies with the Christians and the Jews arrived…” Of the results of the attack, the message states: “the police car was destroyed and two were killed.”
