YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 3, ARMENPRESS: The Yerevan State University has released the first textbook intended for those who want to learn classical Assyrian. The book is written by Arman Hakobian, a professor of Semitic languages with the department of Eastern Studies and is the first such text-book in Armenian dedicated to one of the oldest languages in the Middle East.

The text-book has 40 lessons explaining the Assyrian grammar, morphology and stylistics and also an Armenian-Assyrian and Assyrian-Armenian vocabulary of 6,000 words. Classical Assyrian was never taught in Armenia, not counting a special course for professors of Hebrew and Arabic organized by Arman Hakobian in 2004.
