The Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East, St. Hurmizd Parish Greenfield Park recently hosted the inaugural Women’s Conference on 5 August 2006, in the honour of the Virgin Mary. The Conference was officially blessed and opened by His Beatitude Mar Narsai De Baz., who declared it a complete success.

The aims of the conference were to bring together the women in the Assyrian community given their roles as homemakers, career women and spiritual guides within their families.

More than 100 women attended the day long conference and heard an inspirational talk by His Grace Mar Meelis Zaia.

"Today marks the start of what will be an annual event in the calendar of the Church Of The East." His Grace Mar Meelis Zaia said.

"I see this event becoming truly international and applaud the women's conference committee for their efforts in putting this event together so successfully."

Workshops in Women's Health, Mary and Raising Christian Children among others were conducted following the official conclusion of the program.

Feedback from participants following these workshops was very encouraging and many praised their facilitators for conducting such inspirational and educational sessions.

A small gift bag was presented to attendees that included a small laminated photo of Mar Yousip, A Prayer and Holy Water all blessed by His Grace Mar Meelis Zaia.

A DVD recording of the day will be made available to AssyriaSat viewers so keep an eye out for local program scheduling.
