The Eighth General Assembly of the Assyrian National Congress (ANC) will convene on Saturday and Sunday, March 24-25, 2007 in Ceres, California. The Assyrian Cultural Center of Bet-Nahrain organization is hosting this council.

The purpose of the ANC Assembly is to gather Assyrian political leaders, organizations, and prominent individuals to establish a united, collective leadership, an Assyrian People’s Parliament in exile. Delegates from 12 countries will attend this assembly.

Establishment of an Assyrian People’s Parliament has become high priority considering the suffering of the Assyrian people in their homeland, Iraq. Four years after the liberation of Iraq, this indigenous people still lack proper representation in the Iraqi government. Hundreds of thousands of Assyrian Christians have fled to the neighboring countries where they suffer poverty and homelessness. The assembly will focus on an imperative solution to help the Assyrians obtain their political, national, and land rights in their ancestral homeland, northern Iraq.

Many media networks, including CNN Arabic, Fox News, Al Hura, and local TV stations have been invited to broadcast this historical event.
